Mais Oui, Phone Home…..
Gigaset are a brand who know how mama’s like their tech and gadgets – they invited us to the launch of their new handset at the Armani Hotel, Dubai no less – Jane Wilson tells us more about the best looking handset your house will ever see…
You may never think that have heard of Gigaset but it’s a pretty safe bet that you’ve used, at some time or other, one of their products. As one of the world’s largest manufacturers of cordless phone handsets and other related equipment, they are rightly very proud of their long heritage of German design, manufacture and marketing. A proven innovator in design technology, Gigaset are able to fully manufacture their products in Europe for the Worldwide market, ensuring consistent quality and environmental standards.
I’ve often thought that the humble home telephone has been forgotten about as the quest for smarter and more intuitive mobile phones and accessories rages. Many of us will be guilty of displaying clunky old handsets in our living rooms with little thought for how well they integrate into our livingscapes. Gigaset have set about changing this with the launch of their new SL 910A. A sleek, elegant design offering full touch screen capability, the first of its kind for the home user. The usual features of answering machine, number recall, contacts storage and such like are of course included but what sets this phone apart from other handsets for use in the home is the touch screen capability that we have come to expect from our mobile phones. Address books and calendar entries can be synchronized with your PC or mobile phone by way of Bluetooth functionality and there’s also a mini USB port that allows you to upload photographs which can be linked to your called address book. Perhaps most importantly, the sleek silver housing of polished metal and rounded styling of the phone makes it a winner for even the most style discerning householder. Not surprisingly the SL910A has won European Design Awards in 2011 for its high quality finish and innovative design.
The units will be available through Gigaset’s UAE distributer Betterlife soon.

I have to admit to not needing or wanting a home phone. In this mobile age it’s nice to see that some of those home phone companies are moving upward and onward with cordless phones that make you feel like you aren’t on a land line.
It’s true – so many people don’t have one these days – My only fear is constantly misplacing the handsets the smaller they get – or putting it in my handbag instead of the blackberry!
