The UAE presents women with a myriad of relaxation and active opportunities. In a fast paced world, it’s essential to step back and take the time to just, well, breathe.
We were invited to attend a free yoga workshop held at the Dubai Ladies Club by ‘Art of Living’. Founded in 1981 by Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, The Art of Living Foundation is a not-for-profit, educational and humanitarian NGO (Non-Governmental Organisation) engaged in stress-management and service initiatives. The organisation operates globally in 151 countries and is composed of volunteers.
This free workshop was one of many around the region in preparation for the ‘Yogathon’ to be held on May 11th. Zabeel Park, Dubai.
Our very own ‘mama with a camera’, Dawn McConnaughy, was sent to report.
“I never thought I was a ‘yoga person’; I have tried it a few times over the years, but did not really “get it”. Surprisingly I did enjoy myself at the workshop. I think doing the same twelve poses over and over to plant them firmly in my mind so I could get them right, really helped me feel more confident. I appreciated the volunteers that would come around and help us do the moves properly. I also felt relaxed and in a good mood when we finished, which was amazing considering I had been thinking about my kids and whether or not I got some decent photos of the event while I was supposed to be mediating at the end.”
Did you know that practicing Yoga provides additional benefits? , it burns excess calories, regulates the endocrine system leading to better metabolism and absorption of nutrition, helps you to sleep better and my favorite — helps you look young through better cell rejuvenation. We are all for that!
We recommend the Yogathon next week. It should be fascinating to see that many people spread out over the park doing yoga simultaneously and I am told that the energy in the air will be amazing. See you there Yoga Mama’s…
